Coming of Age

Coming of Age Ceremony
Coming of Age Ceremony

The goal of the Coming of Age program is to help youth participants to create the foundations of their own religious faith.

This six- to eight-month program has been designed to enhance understanding of Unitarian Universalism, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Kamloops, and community service projects.  The youth will also spend some time dealing with personal relationships that are connected with the UUFK.

Each youth is matched with an adult Mentor.  The pairs meet on a regular basis between December and June, getting to know one another, and moving through the projects that comprise the program.  There are four general areas of study and/or activities: Religious Understanding, Our Religious Heritage/History, Service and Social Action, and Personal Relationships.  The program concludes with a ceremony of recognition.

Our Whole Lives

When there is a sufficient number of teens, we can offer Our Whole Lives, a sexuality education curriculum that helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behaviour.  It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information on six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behaviour, sexual health, and society and culture.  OWL not only provides facts about anatomy and human development, but also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.
