Captain Power Smart and the Lightning Bugs light our way
during our energy conservation challenge.

If you are passionate about working for social justice and the environment, you will find like-minded people in our fellowship who are committed to action. The Social and Environmental Action Committee works with the fellowship to identify priorities for one larger campaign at a time, as well as a few short-term projects each year. We focus on positive messages and take a playful approach, doing our best to educate and encourage behavior change with fun, engaging activities.

Recent projects have included successful campaigns to reduce water consumption and power usage amongst fellowship members. We also collected winter clothing and personal care items for the homeless, participated in the Peace and Environment Walk, and contributed to Heifer International.

The SEA Committee often partners with the community in working on projects like The Great Green Transportation Tune-Up (a week of activities encouraging local residents to reā€“think their transportation habits) and the online Thompson Environmental Network (www.thompsonenvironmental.com).

Social justice and environmental awareness and action are interwoven into the fabric of Unitarian Universalism life. Our mission statement says it all: The Social and Environmental Action Committee seeks to raise awareness and promote action within the fellowship and the community at large on social justice and environmental issues. Working collaboratively, we offer information and opportunities to respond to these issues in a manner consistent with the principles of the Unitarian Universalist movement.
